Where True Change and Progress Begins
So I just bought a TON of children’s books on anti-racism, Black heroes, speaking up, & loving and embracing each other’s uniqueness. And I’m putting them all inside of our neighborhood’s tiny library so kids are free to take them and read them as they please.
Kids aren’t born with racism. They are TAUGHT racism. Therefore, they can be taught anti-racism. Let’s start that early! We can raise a generation of people who actively care about helping others in the world and are not afraid to speak up against racial injustice.
“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men,” as Frederick Douglass so wisely said.
You’re right, Mr. Douglass. I’ve taught 1st graders with bigger hearts and a better sense of what’s right and wrong than many adults. Let’s nurture that goodness. True change and progress starts in the home.
